Advocare Adventure – Part 2

Advocare Adventure – Part 2

This week saw the end of the first phase (“cleanse” phase) of our Advocare 24 day challenge, and the beginning of the second (“Max”) phase.  Today is Tuesday, and is our 13th day in total.  For the second phase we are drinking the Advocare meal replacement shakes for breakfast, so I’m not going to have any breakfast photos for a little while.

Here is the rundown on our clean eating for the week:

More protein pancakes – I can’t even remember what recipe I used, but they had vanilla protein powder in them.  The were decent, but not super delicious.  I’m not sure if I liked them more of less than the “yogurty” ones from last week.

Protein Pancakes

Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel toast and egg + egg beaters scrambled with veggies.

Veggie and Egg Scramble and Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin

This is not an Advocare shake.  It’s a protein shake made with Sunwarrior chocolate protein powder, amazing grass green superfood, frozen bananas and berries, and almond milk.  Since I’m so used to protein shakes and I’ve read so many reviews about how yummy the Advocare shakes are I expected to really like them.   The first day I had vanilla and I blended it with ice and water.  The texture was so gross…..kind of like a marshmallow cream blob.  :/  The taste wasn’t bad, but it was rather bland.  On the second day I had a chocolate one just shaken with some ice and water.   The texture was better that way, and I think the chocolate flavor was a little better.  I’ll be able to drink them, but I’m disappointed that I don’t find them to be delicious.

Protein Shake

Eggs scrambled with leftover potatoes and asparagus.

Egg, Potato, and Asparagus Scramble

I made this pasta salad based on this recipe from workoutnirvana.com.   It was a great way to use up some leftover chicken breast and roasted veggies.  As a bonus, Rio loved the noodles!

Chicken, Pasta, & Veggie Salad

This might have been a snack or a lunch….I can’t remember.  The line between meals and snacks gets blurry because we are eating smaller meals every few hours.  This is half of a leftover Hawaiian burger, crudité, and hummus.  I used this recipe for the hummus and was really happy with it.

Leftover Burger, Crudite and Hummus

You can’t see it, but there is some “clean egg salad” buried in that sandwich.

Clean Egg Salad Sandwich

It looked like this….a little on the loose side for my taste.  Next time I might not thin out the cottage cheese with the milk.

Clean Egg Salad

Leftover frijoles cubanos and salad with hummus on top.

Frijoles Cubanos and Salad with Hummus

Leftover tilapia on salad.

Tilapia on Salad

Ground turkey “taco meat” with beans and cherry tomatoes on mixed lettuce.  I used this knockoff chipotle dressing on it.  I always cut the amount of oil in the recipe way down.  I”m not sure if it makes a difference because I haven’t tried it will the full amount.

Turkey Taco Salad

More leftovers for dinner……my poor little veggie sticks were starting to dry out!  They need some ranch flavored lotion!  (I refrained from the ranch….yay me!)

Hawaiian Burgers

I made a chicken and spinach dish from my Advocare recipe book and paired it with mixed roasted veggies.  I think this was red onions, zucchini, yellow squash, and cherry tomatoes (of course.)

Chicken Spinach Skillet & Roasted Veggies

This “frijoles cubanos” recipe also came from my Advocare booklet.  It had a funky flavor to it…..not horrible, but definitely different.  I think it was due to the red vinegar used on the meat.  :/  Salad on the side……

Frijoles Cubanos and Salad

This recipe was a winner from the advocare booklet….tilapia with creamy dill sauce.  It’s nothing too original, but cooking the fish with the lemon on top made it juicy and flavorful.  The sauce uses olive oil mayo for a base, so I tried to use it somewhat sparingly.  Frozen peas and roasted asparagus with pine nuts provided the color!

Tilapia, Asparagus, and Peas

This turkey meatloaf was just straight-up nasty.  :P  Not good at all. It also was from the Advocare booklet.  I could tell from the recipe that it was going to be bland, so I added a little seasoning to the mixture, but not enough.  It had no flavor whatsoever!  We choked it down though.

Turkey Meatloaf

On Sunday night we had Ross’ parents over and I served grilled chicken with oven roasted sweet potatoes, and raw veggies with hummus. Have I ever mentioned that I love sweet potatoes?  Yum!  The chicken marinade recipe was from my Advocare booklet and was a little heavy on the lime flavor, so I had to balance it out with some sweet & spicy Baby Ray’s.

Caribbean Chicken, Sweet Potatoes, Veggies & Hummus

These turkey burger patties have been in the freezer for a while and made for an easy meal.  We served them up with veggies and guacamole.  The bread is whole wheat Ezekiel and is 17g of carbs per slice.  I wanted fruit on the side, so I only used one slice of bread to keep my total under 30g.  On the bread I put a light smear of olive oil mayo mixed with Tapitio.

I somehow didn’t get any pictures of the kids this week.  I did snap a picture of the birthday card that Nick made for Ross.  He said it’s of him and daddy holding hands and holding balloons with candles on top.  Isn’t it so cute?  He always draws people with really long arms.  :D

Daddy's Birthday Card from Nick

Speaking of Ross’ birthday, dinner on Wednesday night was the one meal where we went a little (or lot) off the plan.  We ate at the Salt Cellar in Scottsdale, which is a crazy little underground seafood restaurant.  I had a piece of seared ahi with vegetables and a baked potato with the toppings off to the side.  I did have some sour cream but resisted the butter.   Of course, being his birthday, they gave us a piece of cake.  I don’t care how bad this cake was for us.  It was so worth it.  It was literally the best cake I have ever eaten.  Our server called it bananas foster cake.  It tasted like the best, most moist wedding cake with a hint of banana flavor and had a cream type sauce on top…..like what you would normally have on bread pudding.  SO GOOD!

Last week a friend pointed out to me that I didn’t report any specific weight loss on my post.  Well, there really wan’t much to report.  There were days when I seemed to be down a couple of pounds, and then back up.  My weight can fluctuate by 2-3 pounds easily from day to day.  This week I do think I am down a couple of solid pounds, and I’ve lost a little around the waist.  I haven’t measured my legs, chest or hips.  I think I’ll wait until the end of the challenge to report exact results since they still may change.

Ross and I are also doing a burpee and plank challenge from the facebook page Julie’s Journey.  It hasn’t been too bad so far because the burpees haven’t included push ups, and the planks have been 30 seconds.  However, the intensity is going to ramp up here quickly.  In two days I am supposed to do a 1 minute plank.  Ha!  I’ll be surprised if I make it, but I think I can at least get close.

This week is shaping up to be really busy for me at work, and I’m going to be traveling to Santa Barbara a couple of days earlier than I thought next week because I was able to schedule a couple more days at client locations, so I”ll be out of town for the last 6 days of the Advocare challenge!!  At least my breakfasts will be handled due to the shakes, but it’s going to be SO hard to make the best lunch and dinner choices while eating every meal out.  I don’t want to undo my progress.  I’m sure Ross will also have a hard time here on his own.  His parents will help out with the kids and meals, but I’m not sure how “clean” his food will be that week either.   We’ll see I guess.

I hope everyone is having a great and productive week.  Take care!!

Wish I could help with the kids but I will be in Sa Diego. Enjoy your time.

  2. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to
be actually something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me.
I am looking forward for your next post, I
will try to get the hang of it!
